Sokołowski has specialised in architecture and spatial photography for 18 years; on occasion, he photographs people who are open to photography as a form of encounter. The artist exhibits both his own photographs and photographs of others. Initiator and curator of the exhibition entitled Blow-up. Photographs in the Time of Turmoil (2002), where photography "competed" with the architecture of Warsaw`s centre (4 photographs of 4 photographers on 4 walls of the Palace of Culture and Science, 1300 square meters each). One of his books received the title of the Most Beautiful Book of the Year (2004). He has exhibited his photographs in Warsaw, Zakopane, Suwałki, Nancy, Chicago, Ludźmierz, Cracow, Kaunas, Prague, Katowice, Wrocław, Łódź, Poznań, Szczawno Zdrój and Strasbourg. Sokołowski co-founded the LATARNIK Internet portal, where he edited the Photography section.

The author`s intentions are explained by the title of the series: The City of Warsaw: A Reconstruction. The series consists of twenty photographs, each captured on several Polaroid Polapan 55 P/N (4 x 5 inches) negatives.
It won the 2nd prize in the Second Polaroid International Photography Awards competition in 2000.
It was presented in the form of ten double-sided 2x5 m "banners" in the external gallery of the Palace of Culture and Science (the viewing terrace on the 30th floor). The photograph has been also exhibited in Nancy, Zakopane and Suwałki.
