As Bułhak explains, "of all photographic themes architecture depends the most on the type and design of the camera. Therefore architectural photography does not only require a sense of shape and three-dimensionality but also a certain level of technical expertise". Architectural photography had a significant place in Bułhak`s work.
The photograph was made when the artist was staying in Warsaw due to the Polish-Bolshevik war. At the time, he was head of the photographic studio of the Scientific and Educational Department at the Ministry of Military Affairs. It was then that Bułhak produced rich documentation of Warsaw and its area. Thirteen volumes of photographs feature photos of the Old Town, the Royal Castle, the Wilanów Castle, the Łazienki, the Belweder Palace, the Saxon Palace and Gardens and the Natolin, Królikarnia, Krasiński and Brühl palaces.
