This work is one of the most easily recognisable photographs in the artist’s oeuvre. It comes from a series made for the prestigious Swiss cultural journal DU - for its thematic issue about Warsaw during the post-1989 political and economic changes. The pictures were published in Issue 2 (July 1990), under the title Warschau. Der einer Geschichte (Warsaw. The Beginning of a History), with the featured photograph reproduced - in its uncropped version - on the cover of the journal.
The work has been widely reproduced and exhibited, including: CCA Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw (1990); The Vistula Museum, Kazimierz Dolny (1990); The National Museum in Warsaw (1993); The National Museum in Wrocław (1994).
