The photographic archive of Leonard Sempoliński is so rich that one has the impression that the artist never parted with his camera. The motifs cover a wide range: documentary photographs of war-time cruelty, depictions of Warsaw in ruins, documentation of Polish architecture and scenes of everyday life. When commenting on the exhibition I Just Make Documentary Photographs in the Zachęta Gallery in Warsaw (2005), Adam Mazur stressed that the documentary photographs of Sempoliński have their roots in Bułhak`s art, which is evidenced by the post-impressionist aesthetics visible in some of the works. The featured photograph is representative of such aesthetics.
