Throughout his artistic career, Hartwig experimented with a variety of photographic styles and techniques. One them was photomontage, which Hartwig made skilful use of, as exemplified by this image. The Untitled photograph, which shows the photographer’s dark silhouette only, was published in Hartwig’s album - Theatre Backstage (Arkady, 1969). The artist was fascinated by the semi-real and semi-fictitious atmosphere of the theatre, thus combining the two different worlds he photographed was compatible with his artistic visions. This photograph of models was taken in Hartwig’s apartment in Aleje Jerozolimskie in Warsaw, which the artist also used as his studio.
