gelatin silver print, 37 x 56 cm (45 x 59 cm),
signed, dated and described on the reverse and on the passe-partout,
unique print
The work comes from an open-ended, untitled series, which the author began in 2000. It is mainly made up of still lifes, landscapes and flowers composed in a minimalist fashion. The series is unique for the way it was printed. By exposing traditional silver bromide papers to a long-lasting process, the artist obtains a layer of spots, damp patches and irregularities - apart from the negative itself. The process is only controllable to a slight degree, which yields unique end results. Ultimately, after obtaining a satisfying print, the artist refrains from further reproduction of the same negative, with the original print becoming one of a kind.
The photograph has been shown on multiple occasions. It premiered at the exhibition Evening Waves and other Photographs, Refleksy Gallery, Warsaw (2011).
