‘Arrivals and Departures’ is a project completed in 2012, during the journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway, through Russia, Mongolia and China. Jacob Aue Sobol is one of the most important contemporary artists specializes in creating black and white photography. He is also a traveler who seeks out new inspiration, known from his unusual approach to photography. ‘I prefer to participate than to observe’, he says. And he abandons civilization for years, settling down in Greenland to lead a life of a hunter and fisherman. At the same time, his photography captures a dense aura of confidentiality, that was created by sharing experiences with encountered people. Photographs that are the effect of this original approach toward life and medium of photography, brought him a worldwide fame in the very first years of his artistic activity. Jacob Aue Sobol is a member of the legendary photographic cooperative Magnum. He received awards such as World Press Photo or Leica European Publishers Award. He published a number of publications. Photographer presented his projects internationally: ‘Sabine’ from his stay in Greenland, ‘I, Tokyo’ or ‘The Gomez-Brito Family’ from Guatemala.
