Documentary photographer, graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice and ITF Opava (Czech Republic). For over 10 years, Rafał Milach has been working on transition issues in Russian-speaking countries and the CEE region. The resulting work is presented in the 7 Rooms (Kehrer Verlag, 2011) and In the Car with R (Czytelnia Sztuki, 2012) albums and series: The Grey (2002), Black Sea of Concrete (2009) and The Winners (2012). Selected individual exhibitions: C/O Berlin and Zachęta National Gallery of Art. His photographs have been presented at Photoespana, Look3 and Les Rencontres d`Arles in France. In 2007, he took part in a prestigious Joop Swat Masterclass in Amsterdam run by the World Press Photo Foundation. He received grants from the Ministry of Culture, the European Cultural Foundation and the Visegrad Fund. He has won prestigious prizes, including the World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International, Photography Book Now and New York Photo Festival awards. In 2006, Milach co-founded the Sputnik Photos International Association of Photojournalists.

The 7 Rooms series consists of six photographic stories of people who were born in the USSR, but became adults in the Russia of Vladimir Putin. The seventh room is Svietlana Alexievich`s excerpts from the book Enchanted by Death, which tells private stories of persons who tried to commit suicide after the Soviet Union collapse.
