In the series, Dąbkowski made use of the crime news he found in Polish newspapers published in the French Nord-Pas-de-Calais department in 1926-1937. This photograph was inspired by the following news: "Mr Franciszek Suśnik, a citizen of Jugoslavia, went to work to France, leaving his fiancée behind at home. In France he fell for the irresistible charms of harlots and contracted a terrible disease. Poor wretch was under treatment for a few months. However, seeing that his health is not improving, he shot himself with a pistol."
A law introduced in France in 1920 forbade any form of birth control and propagated large families. However, the pharmacies unofficially sold condoms under the name of "hygienic rubber for man" until the 1960s, when they were legalised.
The series won the Espy Photography Prize (2014).
Exhibitions: Show Off section of the Photomonth, Cracow (2015) and nomination for the Athens Photo Festival (2015).
