As Cyprian said in his foreword to Photographing Water (Księgarnia Wł. Wilak, Poznań, 1937), a manual he wrote and illustrated with his own works, "water revives any scene, is a motif in itself, enhancing the appeal of the otherwise neutral fragments of nature, and helping us to capture a beautiful picture at every step." Water was a leading motif of Cyprian`s work.
In the 1930s, the artist worked closely with Bolesław Gardulski and Tadeusz Wański. They established an informal group known as the Three-Lobed Leaf, which followed the principles of pictorialist photography. The photograph is an excellent example of their style.
