The photograph was taken on 2 October 1979 in New York when Pope John Paul II was addressing a congregation in front of St. Patrick`s Cathedral. The Pope`s visit to the United States and Ireland was part of the 3rd Pastoral Visit.
The picture was reproduced on the dust jacket of the book John Paul II in Ireland and the United States, published by the Pax Publishing House in 1981.
