The artist is primarily interested in large-format photograms. Barszczak focuses on archetypal substances (elements), understood in philosophical terms, and makes reference to mythological figures. In the late 1990s, he started to minimise his means of expression and turned his energies to forms known from geometrical abstraction. Barszczak consciously archaises his form of expression. Major exhibitions: Preis für junge europäische Fotografen, Frankfurter Kunstverein, Galerie Gabriel, Vienna (1987); Photographs, PWSFTviT Gallery, Łódź (1990); New Generation of Polish Photography, BWA, Gorzów (1991); The Live Gallery - Łódź Progressive Art Movement /1969-1997/, Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw (1997); Around the Decade. Polish Photography of the 1990s, Museum of Art, Łódź; MN, Wrocław (2002); Łagiewniki, FF Gallery, Łódź (2005); Venice Now, Salander-O`Reilly Galleries, New York (2005); Water Mark, Galeria 86, Łódź (2008); Photographs, Olimpus Gallery, Łódź (2012).
