geatin silver print, 23.1 x 16.8 cm,
artist`s stamp on the reverse
Leszek Szurkowski made this photograph in the salon of the Poznań Photographic Society, as it offered enough space with white walls, which he needed to reflect light. In order to achieve the graphics-like effect, he made the print on a mat sheet of paper sized 50 x 60 cm, then retouched and photographed it with a medium format camera with belows, using the ORWO NP10 negative. The thus obtained negative was then retouched, becoming a convenient starting point for print making. As Jerzy Lewczyński wrote about the work in his Anthology..., "the intriguing composition showing a hand holding a fork (...) implies that the author chooses the macrocosm of the human body and its surrounding. He seems to prioritise form over content, which does not limit, however, the scale of his artistic expression."
