Text started to appear in Lewczyński`s works in the 1950s. The artist used notes, handwritten by a child or an adult, announcements, letters etc. Having been photographed by the artist, they became part of his Archaeology of Photography. In the foreword to Lewczyński`s monograph entitled Jerzy Lewczyński. Memory of the Image (Museum in Gliwice, 2012), Wojciech Nowicki comments on Lewczyński producing xero, laser prints instead of traditional darkroom ones. Quoting the artist, for whom all print types had the same value, he explains: "(…) the idea is expressed by the image and the modern technique that best fits it".
