Karwowski completed photographic studies at the Cinematography Department of PWSFTviT in Łódź. He also studied photography at ITF, Opava (Czech Republic), and musicology at the Jagiellonian University, Cracow. In 2008, he received the Mayor of Cracow grant in photography. In 2011, he won 1st prize in the Photodiploma Award competition, and in 2012, was a finalist of the Fotofestival in Łódź (with his Sentimental Fiction). The Sentimental Fiction series won 1st prize in the Photodiploma Award 2011 competition. It is a conscious attempt to create a family album focusing exclusively on one person. When viewing the pictures, the irresistible impression is that they show situations which are already known and have happened before. As is usually the case with family albums, this one also creates sentimental fiction.
