In 1951, he graduated painting at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts under prof. Zbigniew Pronaszka. He made his debut as a student at the 1st Modern Art Exhibition in Krakow during the years 1948-49. He has been a member of the Krakow Group since 1962. In 1974, he undertook teaching work at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, and he was rector of this school during the years 1987-90. He received the Jan Cybis award in 1984. A monographic exhibition of the artist’s works took place at the Zacheta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw in 1995.
