The chief representative of Polish avant-garde photography. A member of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers and Association of Polish Art Photographers since 1948; President of the Association during 1979-82, and honorary member since 1973. One of the founders of the Club of Young Artists and Scientists in Warsaw (1947). A participant of the 1948 Modern Art Exhibition in Krakow. He has worked with a series of galleries throughout the country. One of the founders of the 55 Group. Chief editor of the Fotografia monthly magazine during the years 1953-72. He was a lecturer at the National Film School and the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz during 1966-75. Author of numerous articles and lectures. Awarded with many distinctions, including the Award of the Minister of Culture and Art (1975), National Award of the 1st Order (1979).
