An important figure in Polish photography, whose evocative work and excellent articles (Tygodnik Ilustrowany, Naokoło Świata, Tęcza) made a vital contribution to popularising photography in Poland. As a photographer, he focused on industrial as well as mountain motifs and advocated the New Objectivity movement, criticised by the older generation photographers who represented pictorialist aesthetics. In 1937, he joined the Polish Photographic Club.
