Wacław NOWAK (1924 - 1976)

gelatin silver print, 39.8 x 30.2 cm,
signed "Wacław Nowak ZPAF / Kraków," artist’s stamp with the English version of the title on the reverse

Nowak’s art evolved at a time when the function of photography was being redefined, departing from its documentary role towards experimentation and what is referred to as creative photography. Nowak’s artworks often feature a woman, or rather a female body, which is, however, turned into an object, as can be seen in this picture, where the body becomes a target.
Exhibition: Picture-Maker / Picture-Taker: Wacław Nowak’s Photography, Museum of the History of Photography in Cracow (2008).
