The city and its architecture were central to Sempoliński’s art. This photograph, which shows Sigismund’s Column and Warsaw’s Royal Castle in the background, is one of the most instantly recognisable of his pictures. It was reproduced on a number of printed materials, including old Warsaw postcards and calendars.
