The picture was made during Pierściński’s early period, which he rounded off with his participation in the 1st Exhibition of Abstract Photography (Wrocław, London, 1959). This is what Pierściński says about this self-portrait from the Family Album collection: "the different fragments of my face reflected in the slivers symbolize the continuous process of my search for thematic inspiration and efforts to refine the photographic skill and technique."
