This work belongs to one of the best known of Smoczyński’s series, which was created in the early 1980s in the artist’s studio in Lublin. The photographs, displaying effects caused by motion, blurs and distortions, capture mysterious situations, the artist’s interventions in space. Smoczyński’s actions lacked any references to reality and indeed any signs of realness whatsoever, featuring indefinable and unrecognisable objects, causing the photograph creation method itself to undermine the status of photography as a reliable means of documenting events.
