1930s/1950
izohelia, gelatin silver print, 12.3 x 12.9 cm (12.9 x 18 cm),
vintage
Romer’s artworks made with the izohelia technique, a posterisation process developed by the artist himself, are an important part of his oeuvre. One of them is presented here. The same frame showing tulips, taken in the 1930s, but printed in a traditional way, is reproduced in a number of publications about the history of photography. It later became the basis for the izohelia print shown here.
The work has been widely reproduced, including in: P. Nowak, J. Piwowarski, A. Zalewski, A. Żakowicz, Professor Witold Romer. Scientific and Artistic Activity (Dolnośląska Agencja jerG, 1998), Zbigniew Tomaszczuk, Image Hunters: Sketches from the History of Photography (Centrum Animacji Kultury, 1998) among many other publications.
