Obrąpalska was among the artists who, in the late 1940s and early 1950s, opposed the prevailing aesthetics in photography and rejected the topics dictated by the political situation at the time, focusing on abstract motifs instead. Obrąpalska presented many such compositions, causing much controversy. Later, she turned her attention to plants, as in this work. This is how Monika Kozień explains her choices: "The artist would give up narrative topics, devoting herself to examining minor, seemingly unnoticeable manifestations of reality, which, in turn, were a starting point for subjective associations".
