Photograms, which earned Schlabs worldwide renown, were first presented to the public in the late 1950s, when they were an example of the modern approach to the medium of photography. By altering the negatives, e.g. by cutting them, heating them up, and pasting them onto various materials, Schlabs was able to obtain abstract forms, going beyond the traditional understanding of photography.
Many of his photograms can be found in well-known collections in Poland and other countries, including Museum of Modern Art in New York.
