‘Zywoty intymne’ is a series of photographs created since 2005. Overcoming the barrier of shame, the artist presents intimate photographs of her own body, not knowing the final effect at the moment of the taking of an image. Those frames, expected to be intimate, are actually strongly shaped by trends and popular culture. The artist plays the game of what is and what is not becoming, and alludes to what one is not allowed to say but what nevertheless comes to everybody’s mind. In her work, Swidzinska often touches upon the topic of women in art, or, rather, their exclusion from the history of art, the deletion of women artists, and the presentations which deprive women of their privacy. Swidzinska was born in Milanowek and lives in Bialystok. Since the beginning of the 1990s, she has been engaged in performance art, video performance, photo performance, and photography. She has bean teaching interdisciplinary workshops during which she combines visual and other forms of art. She has taken part in many performance meetings and festivals (for example, the International Performance Art Festival in Giswil in Switzerland), in actions in open spaces (for example, during the International Street Art Festival in Warsaw or the International Ritual Festival in Pedval in Latvia), and in projects dedicated to women’s art (for example, 'Kobieta o kobiecie' - English: 'A Woman About a Woman' - in Bielsko-Biala or 'Performance-esse' in Torun).
