The work is a colour variation of a black-and-white gelatin-silver print which was part of the Intimate landscape series (1972). The picture was reproduced using the gum bichromate technique, which involves coating paper with a mixture of gum arabic, potassium dichromate or ammonium and pigment, and making contract prints on the paper from a negative. When being exposed, the bichromate under transparent parts of the image turns into chromium oxide, which, combined with the gum arabic, forms a chemical compound, rendering the latter insoluble in water.
