Ireneusz ZJEŻDŻAŁKA (1972-2008)

Mikuszewo, 2001 from the Sedimentation series

2001
gelatin silver print, 16 × 16.2 cm (27 × 27.3 cm)
probably one of three existing prints
vintage print

On the face of it, Zjeżdżałka is not preoccupied with humans in his photography. However, this is far from being true. Anything that is captured on his film, is a detailed story about the people he met or whose traces he found. As he recollects his visit to Mikuszewo, "In 2001, I took two photographs here, in an old apparently abandoned cottage, with two farm buildings adjacent to it. In fact, it was 90 per cent abandoned. [...] Even though the man living there had electricity and a telephone line (for emergency calls), as well as an old black-and-white TV set (probably not working), he occupied only one of the rooms - the converted kitchen, with no running water."
Publications: cover of the monographic album Sedimentation (Galeria Zderzak, 2004), Photographs (Kropka J.W. Śliwczyńscy, 2009).
