This photograph dates back to Gardulski’s early period. It comes from a diversified series of works in which the artist focused on transforming a concrete person, persons or a crowd into an impersonal human sign and taking them out of the context. This is one of the earliest photographs in the collection. Gardulski tried to achieve the effect of unreality by treating the images in an unrestrained manner, whether by interfering with the negative, as in this work, or by using, for example, the gum technique.
