As Witold Węgrzyn commented on Zastróżna’s style at the time of her Messenger exhibition in Mała Galeria ZPAF-CCA (1999), "transformation, colour, sign, spot, line, gesture - Joanna uses these recurrent elements eagerly, deliberately, even passionately." The characters who appear in her art, often nude, are surrounded by objects, such as newspaper clips, pieces of clothing or small things like a postage stamp, which add new meanings to the artworks.
