Milton Greene met Marilyn Monroe during a photoshoot for Look magazine. Closer collaboration between the famous celebrity photographer and the hottest Hollywood actress began in 1953. During the following years, Greene not only photographed Marilyn - taking a few thousand pictures of her in total - but also played the role of a personal advisor and agent. It is a well-known fact that they shared a deep friendship, but it remains unclear as to how close they actually were. The actress spent a long period of time living with Milton's family. The world was buzzing with rumours about their romantic affair, but Greene's wife, Amy, consistently denied them. Greene and Monroe's collaboration was ended by the star's possessive third husband Arthur Miller. Upon leaving Marilyn Monroe Productions, feeling offended, Greene banned the publication of any of his photographs. His archive was only made available again - in part - after the artist's death in 1985. At that point, Milton's son, Joshua, undertook the arduous task of reordering his father's legacy.
