The Lego. Concentration Camp is considered to be one of the most important works of Polish contemporary art. It consists of a series of photographs and a set of seven LEGO boxes of various sizes, which - as the artist suggests - may be used to build a concentration camp. The work stirred up enormous controversies, as a result of which it was prevented from being exhibited in the Polish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 1997. Nevertheless, soon it became an iconic piece of art, and has since been widely exhibited - in its different versions - across the world. Lego works can be found in many prestigious collections, including that of the Jewish Museum in New York.
This print comes from the so-called American Portfolio, which was issued in 1996 in 12 copies, each including 11 photographs.
