Hartwig`s early period dates back to the 1920s., when he was learning photography from Jan Bułhak, dedicating himself to landscape photography under the latter`s influence. However, unlike classical images, his compositions were more sophisticated, as the work featured here. Quoting Adam Sobota, in Hartwig`s photography "light is the key actor, bringing out natural shapes, just as a painter creates shapes with a brush."
