Andrzej LACHOWICZ (1939 Wilno - 2015 Wrocław)

Landscape from Samso (Denmark) from The Structures series

1968 / 1980s
gelatin silver print, 28.9 x 28.5 cm,
signature, date and title on the reverse,
edition: unspecified

The photograph comes from a series of works created on the Samso Island, Denmark. Lachowicz tried to deconstruct its landscape by making it unreal. The first shot was a typical landscape, then the artist gradually lowered the lens, making ever larger close-ups. The work was made by double negative exposure (straight forward view and its mirror reflection).
The work was shown at Lachowicz`s individual exhibition Resurrection, Art New Media Gallery, Warsaw (2009), which consisted of black-and-white photographs, produced mainly in the 1960s and 1970s and representing such series as Topologies, The Structures, Shadows.
