Bogdan Konopka was born in 1952 in Dynow. He is one of the main founders of the movement of the so-called 'elementary photography', the program of which he was creating in 1982-85, while cooperating with the Foto-Medium-Art gallery in Wroclaw. As a photographer and critic, he has been working for Pismo Artystyczne 'Format' (since 1994) and Kwartalnik 'Fotografia' (2000-12). He taught photography in the National School of Photography in Arles, in France (1994-97), in Warsaw School of Photography (2009-11), and in École de la Photographie de Vevey in Switzerland (2006-16). He received the the Vevey International Photography Award in the European Photo Competition, in 1998. In his work, he prefers large format, silver photography technique. He is primarily interested in the possibility of registering the individual aspects of spiritual experience, which he calls the internal landscape. He is currently working on a book about Poland (1978-2018) for the Delpire publishing house in Paris and on a biographic publication for the slowo/obraz terytoria publishing house. Konopka's works are presented in many countries and can be found in collections of famous musea, for example: Centre Pompidou in Paris, Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw, Collections du Ministre de la Communauté Francaise de Belgique in Brussels, and Moscow House of Photography.
