gelatin silver print, 13 × 17.9 cm,
text "Fotografia wotywna / Zawsze byłem przy Tobie... / J. Robakowski /
Warszawa, 20 września 1983, Mała Galeria" on the reverse
The featured work is one of the invitations Robakowski produced for his exhibition I’ve Always Been with You... in Mała Galeria ZPAF-CCA, Warsaw (1983). The exhibited portfolio of photographs, including the work reproduced in the invitation, consists of Robakowski’s self-portraits and exemplifies what he refers to as "votive photographs." They were taken against the background of a TV screen, which shows the welcoming ceremony for Pope John Paul II, who came to Poland on his second pastoral visit. The other photographs in the series depict the Pope in the company of Polish officials, including General Wojciech Jaruzelski or the Head of the State Council, Henryk Jabłoński.
