1988
photo collage, serigraph on newsprint paper sized 60 × 50 cm, with 10 × 15 cm gelatin silver print pasted onto it,
signed and dated on the front
unique object
vintage print
The work comes from a series of collages made with the serigraph technique, with a black-and-white print mounted on them. The artist printed the image onto a newspaper page, with all its banality in content terms. By presenting a woman in this way, he commented on the role of women in society at the time of the Polish People’s Republic.
The work was shown at Tomaszczuk’s individual exhibition in Mała Galeria ZPAF-CCA, Warsaw (1988), and was mentioned by Marcin Giżycki in the catalogue of the exhibition.
Several works from the series were reproduced in Lewczyński’s An Anthology of Polish Photography 1839-1989 (Lucrum, 1999).
