Kinderturnen is a series of over one hundred collages made in 2012-2015 using original materials from the manual Children’s Gymnastics. A Collection of Exercises in Photographs, published in 1955 in Leipzig. The instructions for the exercises and physical games in the book are illustrated with pictures demonstrating the correct and incorrect ways of completing the respective tasks, reproduced on adjacent pages. The examples of ill-performed actions inspired the artist to create her own unique choreography in which the way the children’s bodies are arranged form distressing physical and mental constructs. The work Home is unique because it is the first collage in the entire series, made during Orzechowska’s residence in Bremen.
