A dancer, mime artist, choreographer and director, Henryk Tomaszewski (1919-2001) performed in Feliks Parnell`s Polish Ballets, worked for the Polish Academic Theatre and was a soloist of the Wrocław Opera. His productions as a choreographer and director include: The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat, Protesilas and Laodamia, and The Killing Game. He was the founder and director of the Pantomime Theatre in Wrocław where, as the first teacher of mime in Poland, he educated mime artists. Tomaszewski won many awards, including the Gold Medal of the Swedish Dance Association (Stockholm, 1963) and the Gold Star at the 7th International Dance Festival (Paris, 1970).
Henryk Tomaszewski`s portraits, notably his nudes, represent a highly interesting chapter in Stefan Arczyński`s work. The motif of the male body has not been much explored in Polish photography.
