The heart is a recurrent motif in Bogacka’s art. She tells stories about intimacy, relationships with others, and the intricacies of emotional life, often reaching for the symbol of love. This photograph comes from a series of 21 unique works made upon the commission of the Raster Gallery (2008). Inspired by the formal experiments of avant-garde photographers of the early 20th century, Bogacka makes use of the photogram - a photographic image made without a camera by placing objects directly onto the surface of a light-sensitive material. On some of her Hearts, one can even see her fingerprints.
