In the Thickening series Zastróżna revisits her own intimate experience, alluding to and elaborating on her earlier series, such Messenger and NR3.
The critic Irina Czmieriewa says that "Zastróżna`s works exist in the real world as an illusion of unimaginable depth, not only in symbolic but also in visual terms. Her photographs exploit the concepts of physical palpability, obviousness, two-dimensionality, and the ability to penetrate with the eye the internal boundaries of matter, which is impossible in the physical world as we know it. At the same time, her technique gives her photographs an air of authenticity, making them a witness of visionary experiments."
