She studied at the Humanities Department of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow (1945-47) and at the Painting Department of State College of Fine Arts in Wroclaw (1951-57). Later she worked as a lecturer of the Wroclaw University of Technology at the Architecture Department in the Faculty of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture (1959-95). She has been working as a professor since 1991. Michalowska is numbered among the first representatives of the conceptual art in Poland, and in her works she explores the phenomena of time and space. She works with painting, drawing, and photography. Her works are collected among the archives of the National Museum in Wroclaw, the Modern Art Museum in Lodz and the Modern Art Museum MOCAK in Krakow.
