From the series Folk Types

ca. 1915/1921
toned gelatin silver print, 14 × 10 cm,

"[...] Being realistic par excellence, photography makes it highly easy for you to capture the physical likeness, that is the likeness of the individual parts of the body and facial features" - this is what Bułhak wrote, complaining that many artists use photography merely for documentary purposes. He believed that a portrait must not just be a physical, but also spiritual depiction of a person - "a nameless image of life itself." Bułhak took many of his photographs to document places and people, which is proven, for example, by the title of this work. This made him widely appreciated for his humanist attitude to photography.
