‘Existences’ is the third important photographic series by Zbigniew Dlubak. Dlubak explained in the interview with Jerzy Wojcik, a few days before the opening of the major individual exhibition titled ‘Zbigniew Dlubak - works from 1965 to 1991' in Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw in March 1992: "These are the photos from the series ‘Existences’. I have started this series at the beginning of the 50s as the documentation of banality but not only." The series was mostly taken in the studio on Pulawska street. It was taken between 1959 and 1966. ‘Existences-Interiors’ is the series which in objectified and cold manner depicts the simplest objects and utilities from the artist’s studio in Warsaw: a plate, a cardboard, a stove, a radiator. As Piotr Slodkowski explains: "It is significant that Dlubak was creating it [the series] in opposition to informel ("Art Informel", abstract tendencies from the 50s. which aimed to escalate the expressiveness of the painting/image). By multiplication of the images, untypical captures of perspective and uncommonly large close-ups this apparently neutral recording touches upon nature and the boundaries of the medium itself. Even though the artists considered Existences a working piece, it is significant for his later work - some of the photographs were used in his famous ‘Iconosphere I’ - the monumental photographic installation from 1967."
