Little Man (1952-1963) is the first consistent photographic project made by Zofia Rydet. The artist saw the child as an autonomous being with a life as complex as that of adults. The series was featured in the Little Man album, released by Arkady in 1965 with excerpts of Janusz Korczak`s texts. The book`s graphic design was made by Wojciech Zamecznik. In 2012, The Archaeology of Photography Foundation published a re-edition of Little Man, retaining the original layout and technique - rotogravure print. Zamecznik used a crop of this photograph on the book`s dust jacket.
The work has been shown at a number of exhibitions in Poland and worldwide, including: MOMA Photovision Australia (1961); Little Man, Gallery of the Photographic Society in Gliwice (1961); Zofia Rydet, Polish Embassy in the Hague, the Netherlands (2008); Zofia Rydet. The Beginning, Art New Media Gallery, Warsaw (2011).
