Zbigniew Dłubak was creating his Gesticulations series, also known as Systems - Gesticulations, from 1970. The photographs complement his series of paintings entitled The Systems, which he started in 1974. It consists of two parts - female torsos and hand gestures. Each gesture was broken down into 8 or 12 parts corresponding to the number of frames on a medium-format negative film (6 x 6 and 6 x 9 cm respectively). The gestures, as presented in sequences, lose their cultural meanings and make way for new interpretations.
