The Flowers series was created in 2004-2007 as a combination of site specific performances, objects and photographs. The finished forms presented to viewers were made of female clothes, with their soft and round shapes resembling colourful flowers. The artist first wore various items of clothing (stockings, petticoats, panties, dresses), then took them off and formed them into desired shapes. The entire process was taking place in isolation. The viewers were only shown the "ready" flower. On the face of it, the shapes obtained by Markiewicz were decorative and innocent, but if seen from a deeper perspective, they incorporated a memory of the absent women, her warmth and scent creating an imaginary representation of her nudity. The surroundings in which the objects were presented, i.e. on a park lawn, evoked further disturbing images. The artist shows that the line between beauty, innocence and wickedness, humiliation and cruelty can be very thin.
The works from the series have been widely exhibited and published.
