Jan Spałwan was one of the pillars of the Kielce School of Landscape photographic movement. In 1945, he started working as a photographer in the Kielce military unit. He received his master craftsman`s diploma in photography from the Chamber of Crafts in Kielce (1971). In 1950-1978, Spałwan ran a photographic studio with his wife and focused on art photography in 1967. The central theme of his work was the Kielce region landscape, which he captured out of an "internal need to commute with nature." Member of the 10 x 10 Group and ZPAF. He received a number of prizes, medals and titles for his professional and artistic achievements and social activity, including the Artist FIAP distinction. In 1983, he was a laureate of the (1st-degree) group Award of the Minister of Culture and Art for his contribution to creating an art document of Polish rural landscape. Photographic instructor of PTTK. Author of many individual and group exhibitions.
