Karol Szczeciński was sent to Nuremberg as a representative of the Army Film Making Company to cover the Nuremberg Trials. During the same period, Professor Karol Estreicher came to Nuremberg to seek Polish artworks stolen by the Germans during WW2. When the altarpiece was found in the vault of Kronenburg castle, Szczeciński took pictures documenting the momentous event.
