gelatin silver print, 27 x 37 cm,
signed, dated, with the following description on the reverse: "Zygmunt Rytka / Kontakt, 1993 / Z. Rytka" and a print of the artist`s index finger
The Contact series of photographs ranks Rytka among the forerunners of bioart. Thus Rytka joined one of the world`s leading artistic trends of the 1990s which involved the use of various lifeforms as the fundamental creative material. The term bioart itself was coined later, but Rytka proved his worth as an independent artist, at the same time, keeping up with the best of the world. The set of images is one of the most crucial of Rytka`s series, and a unique one, considering its purity of form and message.
Exhibitions: Contact, Mała Galeria ZPAF-CCA, Warsaw (1994) and numerous individual and group shows. Its last presentation took place at the Scope fair in Miami Beach (2011).
A fine selection of works from the series can be found in the Zachęta Gallery in Szczecin, the Museum of the History of Photography in Cracow, and in a number of private collections.
